Basingstoke Branch

Basingstoke and Oxford were the only retail depots that were purpose built by Job's from scratch. The branch in Pelton Road, Basingstoke was constructed to house two smaller dairies bought by Job's in the early 1960's.
In 1960 Job's acquired Down Grange Dairy which was based at Roman Road on the outskirts of the town. At that time eight rounds operated from the premises which mostly served outlying villages. These far-flung rounds were disposed of to newspaper shops which combined delivery of Job's milk with the daily paper, whilst Job's concentrated on delivering milk to the town of Basingstoke itself.
Five years later in 1965 Job's moved even closer into the town by taking over Mr. Henry Brunning's Hampshire Dairy in Vyne Road. With 10 rounds this was an important acquisition.

The depot in Pelton Road was officially opened by the then Mayor of Basingstoke, Mr Roger Morris on 12th May 1971 although the branch had been operational since a couple of weeks before. Technically, Down Grange was not really a Job's branch at all, but a separate company within the Job's group.
Basingstoke grew to be Job's biggest retail depot with 32 rounds at it's peak.
