Payne & Gunter became part of the Job's family in the early 1980's following the amalgamation of the two long established catering companies. Prior to this the companies had already acquired an enviable reputation in their own right, having been caterers to Napoleon III and bakers of Queen Victoria's Jubilee Cake which measured over 10' 6" in height!

Under Job's ownership Payne & Gunter quickly established itself as a leading player in the field of hospitality catering, attending prestige events such as The Henley Regatta, The Grand National and even for State Occasions attended by The Royal Family at Guildhall.

Clients could enjoy high quality catering at major sporting events, shows and exhibitions in spacious, elegantly furnished and heated marquees and be waited upon by trained staff. The emphasis was very much on quality catering with a variety of hot and cold dishes being freshly prepared on the premises by chefs using the finest seasonal ingredients.

Payne & Gunter did not remain part of the Job's group of companies for long and when Job's was sold in 1987 they became part of The Compass Group. The company still trades under the same name today as successful major event caterers.
