Tadley - Branch 32

The village of Tadley in Hampshire was originally served from Tilehurst branch in Reading by a Trojan diesel driven by roundsman Jimmy Wheeler. Then in 1957 Job's acquired two local dairies. Lacking suitable premises Job's set up shop in caravans and huts at Aldermaston, courtesy of the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment. The milk floats were charged in the open, up against a hanger left over from the days when Aldermaston was an aerodrome.

Two years later in 1959 Job's bought premises on the Newbury to Basingstoke road and Tadley branch was born. Being on the borderline of two counties the branch served villages in both Hampshire and Berkshire. The rounds tended to be quite long in order to serve outlying villages.
