Winifred (Win) daughter of Charles Harry & Nora Emily Dorey, younger sister of Ronald Spencer. Win spent her childhood in Twyford. At 15 she started work for a bakery, where she became well loved for her skills in making pastry, skills that would last a lifetime. During 1940 she began working for Johnsons Brothers (Dyers) Ltd, where she soon gained promotion.
In 1943 Win was called up for war duty, the laundry sadly (eventually) let her go with the promise that her job would be waiting. She enlisted in the WRAF and soon became a qualified electrician. She always had a smile and a kind word to those who flew off, never knowing if they were to return, she still holds their sixpence.
Win was well liked and always had a following of suitors, but only entertained a few, of which she always held fond memories. At the end of her war duties she went back to Johnsons as Relief Manageress.
Win always worked, apart from when her children were small. Her last job was with Job’s Dairy during the 1970's and 1980's as a bookkeeper eventually becoming Relief Bookkeeper. Win stayed with Job's until her retirement, working at Tilehurst, Woodley and Tadley branches. Win is still fondly remembered by them, and received a handwritten letter & gifts from The Roberts Foundation every Christmas.
She had few true friends, but, of those she stayed loyal to for life. In 1948 she was wooed & courted by Percy who would not take no for an answer. It was Percy who was to be her life long partner and in 1953 she became Mrs Warwick. They soon had their first child Susan followed by their only other child Lesley.
Win’s Life was never easy and she took life and its problems in her stride. Her life was devoted to Percy & their two children. After her retirement she become a devoted Nan/Nanny, and spent her life caring for and worrying about others, always putting herself in second place. Win-Mum-Nan-Nanny always found time when she was needed.
Today Win leaves behind her brother Ron, her two daughters and their respected families Susan & husband Steve children Richard & Matthew. Lesley & husband Les children Adam, Peter, Joseph & her great-grandson Logan son of Adam & Holli. And Lastly Tony the son-in-law she never lost touch with.
Win will never be forgotten; she left her mark on all she met. Like the never forgotten skills from her bakery days that never faded as everyone remembers "Have you got any breadpudding mum or rhubarb crumble nan?" and not forgetting her apple duff!
Win-Mum-Nan-Nanny is already sadly missed by her family and friends, a day will not pass without her being remembered.
Today there is another star in the sky
